World Hearing Day, started by the World Health Organisation, is celebrated on the 3rd of March each year. But what is it and how are we celebrating World Hearing Day 2021?

Where does World Hearing Day come from?

World Hearing Day is a day dedicated to promoting awareness of our ears and hearing, as well as inviting action to protect our hearing and treat hearing loss. It started in 2007, and was initially known as International Ear Care Day, before being renamed World Hearing Day. Every year a theme is selected, and shared marketing materials can be used by anyone around the world who wants to celebrate.

World Hearing Day 2021

2021’s theme is ‘Hearing Care for All’, and is a call for hearing loss and it’s impact to be addressed globally. The primary idea is that everyone, no matter who or where they are, should be able to access hearing care. This should include access to prevention, assessment, and management of their hearing.

Our Practice Celebration

Every year our practice does something to celebrate World Hearing Day. In the past we’ve hosted screening events at our practice and even out and about in our community. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not able to celebrate with an event like this in 2021. This year we are doing something different, and offering you, our patients, the chance to help others have access to hearing care, particularly hearing aids. During the month of March 2021, if you donate your second hand, usable hearing aid when purchasing a new set, we’ll take R500 off the total cost of your new aids (Terms and conditions apply). We also have another promotion running to celebrate our practice’s 30th birthday- click here to find out about both promotions.

Hearing Care should be for all- and with the development of mobile technology, there are more and more options for people all over the world to access hearing care. If you’d like to know what you can do to celebrate World Hearing Day 2021, contact our practice.
